A property manager for a busy retail plaza in DeLand asked us to dress up the parking islands and entrance corners with new sabal palms, the state tree of Florida and a natural fit for the sandy soil here. We scheduled the install after dark so we never blocked a single storefront or parking row during business hours. You can see our work lit up under the plaza pole lights in these photos, with the liquor store, the dollar store, and the other tenant signs glowing in the background. We set the palms in fresh mounded beds, ringed them with dark mulch, and tucked in low ornamental grasses around the base so each island reads as a finished landscape rather than a bare patch of curb. Working at night on a commercial corner takes planning, traffic cones, and a crew that keeps the site clean, and that is exactly how we run every job. We staged the truck, the bucket, and the planting stock off to the side so foot traffic and drive lanes stayed open the whole time. By the time the doors opened the next morning, the plaza looked like the palms had always been there.

Sabal palms are the right call for a commercial setting like this one. They handle the heat that bounces off asphalt all summer, they shrug off the salt and wind that roll through Volusia County, and their root systems stay tight, so they will not buckle the parking lot or crack the curbing the way a sprawling shade tree can. We hand picked specimens with full, healthy crowns and clean trunks, then set them at a consistent height across the islands so the rhythm of the planting looks intentional from Woodland Boulevard and the surrounding drive lanes. In one shot you can see a crew member up in the bucket finishing the top of a freshly set palm while a groundsman steadies the trunk below. That two person approach keeps the palm plumb and protects the fronds from snapping during the lift. We watered each one in deeply at planting and laid the mulch ring thick to hold moisture in DeLand's fast draining sand. Good commercial landscaping is not just about the day of the install; it is about choosing material that still looks sharp three and five years down the road with minimal fuss.

Curb appeal is real money for a shopping center, and mature palms do a lot of heavy lifting in that department. Shoppers driving the Woodland Boulevard and Highway 17-92 corridors make a snap judgment about a plaza before they ever park, and a clean, green, well kept entrance tells them the whole property is cared for. The grouped palms we planted at the corners and center islands give the lot real vertical interest, soften the long flat rooflines of the tenant buildings, and throw welcome shade over a few of the closest stalls. We finished every island the same way, with crisp mulch edges and tidy grasses, so the landscaping looks uniform from one end of the plaza to the other. Because we did the install overnight, the tenants never lost a parking space or a customer to our work. DeLand has a deep love of its tree canopy, from the live oaks downtown to the greenery around Stetson University, and we are proud to extend that same green standard into the commercial corridors. If you manage a plaza, office park, or storefront in the area, we can plant, mulch, and maintain it on a schedule that never interrupts your business.
